
The Chinese Ancient Gods and Beasts Creation Competition is a series of activities with a cycle of 12 years. The competition aims to inherit and carry forward the excellent traditional Chinese culture, show the unique charm of Chinese culture, gather artists and art works with future vision and international level, and present them to the public through the "Immersive Sculpture Exhibition of Chinese Ancient Gods and Beasts". The goal of the first competition was to find descriptions of various animals from ancient Chinese legends and design their images into sculptures. The features of this fantasy zoo are:
Conform to the context of the Renaissance of Chinese traditional culture; Inspire people's yearning and imagination for the unknown mysterious world; Adhering to the Chinese Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism three religions in one Oriental culture customs; Promote international exchanges with inclusiveness, and unite people of different ethnic groups, customs and religious beliefs to understand each other, and create a happy and beautiful life together. Collection in this contest is divided into "sculpture" and "dynamic and interactive work" two kinds, theme is divided into "Hou", "phoenix", "dragon" three kinds of mythical beasts. Participants can check their own information, and there is no limitation on the style
(1)Hou
Hou,which is commonly called Wangtian Hou, Chaotian Hou or Deng Dragon.It is said that it is the nemesis of the dragons and likes to eat dragon brain. It is popular among the people that "one Hou can fight three dragons and two flood dragons". It was set on ornamental column to supervise the emperor.
Some people say that he is the son of the Dragon King and has a habit of watching. The dragon on the top of ornamental column roars at the sky, which is regarded as uploading the will of heaven and sending the public sentiment.Ji Yun explains: Hou is animal name which looks like a dog and is cannibal.In addition, there is a beast named Hou in the East China Sea, which is shaped like a rabbit and has long ears, only over a foot long. The lion is afraid of it, and its cover roars and drowns, causing it to rot. There is a record in Yan Expose Yu Tan. Although small in size, it can fight against dragons and feed on them after victory. There is another saying, which is that Hou and Kirin are very similar and are the ancestors of Kirin.
(2)Phoenix
Phoenix, also known as the "Phoenix Emperor", also known as the Phoenix, Danniao, Firebird, Rooster, Weifeng, etc., is a pair of mythical and mythical bird combinations in ancient Chinese mythology and legends, divided into male and female, with the male being "Phoenix" and the female being "Phoenix", collectively known as the Phoenix. According to the Classic of Mountains and Seas , the shape of the Phoenix Bird is like an ordinary chicken, with colorful feathers all over its body. The pattern on its head is shaped like the character "De", the pattern on its wings is shaped like the character "Yi", the pattern on its back is shaped like the character "Li", the pattern on its chest is shaped like the character "Ren", and the pattern on its abdomen is shaped like the character "Xin".
(3)Dragon
Dragon is an animal in ancient Chinese mythology, the longest of scale insects, and one of the symbols of the Chinese nation. Legend has it that dragons are capable of flight, are adept at change, and can call out wind and rain. They are considered auspicious alongside phoenix, unicorn, and others. Er Yayi records that the horn resembles a deer, the head resembles a camel, the eyes resemble a rabbit, the neck resembles a snake, the abdomen resembles a mirage, the scales resemble a fish, the claws resemble an eagle, the palms resemble a tiger, and the ears resemble a cow "; The Lun Heng records that "the image of secular dragon painting, with a horse head and a snake body"; According to the Huainanzi, there are five types of dragons: flying dragon, pterosaur, snake dragon, flood dragon, and snail dragon.
The collection and awarding methods of the competition actively respond to the new requirements of the digital economy for art, with digital works such as animations and games accounting for one-third of the shortlisted works. The competition will invite thirteen international artists, well-known experts from the domestic art and cultural fields, to form a "Selection Expert Committee". The judges come from the fields of sculpture, design, literature, film and television, and religion, with significant upgrades in fairness and professional strength, in order to guide the high-quality, refined, and branded development of related industries, and focus on enhancing cultural soft power.
